Sunshine & Rainbow Academy

In 1989, First Methodist Church opened the doors to their preschool called Sunshine and Rainbows. The school was designed and established as a community outreach program and has continued to operate for the past 30 years providing:

• A loving, Christian environment providing classes for Pre-School students ages 2-4
• Small class sizes with hands-on learning experiences lead by a highly trained, loving teaching staff
• A safe and secure State licensed facility with an outstanding playground
• Weekly Chapel services with the Pastor
• Special Events throughout the year to celebrate the children and their parents
• Several options for class choices including half day or full day

Sunshine & Rainbows follows a theme-based curriculum that is aligned with the Pre-K Guidelines of Texas and uses Handwriting without Tears. All activities revolve around the alphabet, phonemic awareness, math skills, pre-reading and pre-writing skills. Our activities also include art and science on a regular basis.

Each day our classes follow a daily schedule that includes indoor and outdoor play, music, large and fine motor activities, story time, centers, show and tell, and a snack. All regular classes for 2-4 year olds are from 8:10 am – 12:00 pm. 

Our After Care program is available for 3 and 4 year old students until 5:30 pm.  This program requires the students to bring their own lunches and extends their learning day with additional art, science, and indoor/outdoor play.  Early Drop Off service at 7:30 am is available for 3 and 4 year old students.

Every Wednesday, the students attend Chapel with our Pastor. This special time promotes our Christian foundation with a weekly Bible lesson and worship songs. Parents are welcome to attend.

Sunshine & Rainbows prides itself in providing the students with special activities which are an important part of the learning experience including walking field trips to the Fire Station and the Matagorda County Children’s Museum plus special visits from community leaders. Interactive events are scheduled throughout the school year and include Pajama Day, Rodeo Day, and a favorite – Wet, Wild & Wacky Day. Our annual Christmas Program and End of Year Program spotlight the talents of our preschoolers. 

Sunshine & Rainbows also has a very active and supportive PTO in which parents and staff have worked together diligently to raise thousands of dollars every year to improve the school and support the students’ education.

Sunshine & Rainbows is led by a State Certified Director and Advisory Board comprised of local educators, First Methodist Church members, and outstanding community members.
